It's so good to have friends that can take your mind off your troubles.

Thanks Tim. You made me smile today when all I really wanted to do was sulk and stay away from everyone.

You made me laugh when all I wanted to do was cry.

You are a good friend, even if you do sometimes have alterior motives.

*hugs*

I've found quite a few gentlemen on VR; however, this particular gentleman isn't from here.

Today is his last day. He'll come in today, turn in his equipment and say goodbye. No more stuttering in all the excitement of a cop's life. No more OCD about his ratty looking desk (which by the way I'm getting out of my office now!). No more "Aye Linda" first thing in the morning and last of all, no more "Thank you very much" said in the quirky Elvis impersonation voice.

I'm gonna miss the hell out of you man.

I've been working with Bo for about 7 years now. He's a nut. He's funny as hell, he can be an ass. He can't hear half the time, so I have to yell at him. Sometimes I think he says "what'd you say Linda?" on purpose, just to see me get mad and yell at him to hurry up and get the damed hearing aids!

Well, he's retiring. False teeth and all. He'll be gone effective Wednesday. I do believe I'm gonna miss the old goat. I've been here 17 years and in those years, I've only worked with two men closely and the second one is about to retire.

They both were like surrogate dads to me, and I was like a daughter to them. Neither of them had any daughters.

I miss Billy all the time, hell, he still brings his grandkids in to see "aunt Linda".

Bo won't be bringing in any grandkids, but at some point, he might bring in some puppies..lol

I'm gonna miss the old bastard. I'm gonna miss him lots.

Five hundred and ninety five dollars. That's the quote I was given for 4 new tires to be put on my husband's truck. I've compared prices and that's a little high, but not outrageous. The good thing about getting them at this place, I tell my husband, is that we can make payments. Yes, it's more expensive than the other place, but at the other place, I can only get 2 tires today because that's all I can afford. At this place I can get all 4 tires and make payments.

Ok..I've talked him into it. He's paying more for them, but he's getting all 4 tires. I feel safer that way with all the driving he does.

So he shows up and tells them he's there for four new tires. He tells the salesman that his wife has been talking to someone already. They find this guy and he sets down with my husband.

......The price has gone up...I shit you not, it hasn't been 30 minutes and the price on the tires has gone up by damn near $200.00. Of course I tell my husband to get the hell out of there. One, I don't want to do business with someone who'll jack around like that. Two, ..what an ass!!

So, Wal-Mart gets the business. I get two tires today, one next week and one the following week.

This guy sucks and anyone who asks me will be told why.

When do you decide that enough is enough? How far down that road do you travel before you realize you've been down it before and turn around? Do you turn around, or do you just continue to take the same path? It's safe, it's comfortable...even if it isnt' right.

How do you explain to someone that continually takes the beaten path, that it's time for new pavement?

I can only give the advise. I can be there when I'm needed with tissues and dry shoulders. I can tell you over and over again that this isn't the right way.

In the end, it's you who has to decide when it's time to turn around and take the other road. In the end, it's you who has to realize that safe and comfortable doesn't always equal to good.

Taking a chance is something that you need to do sometimes. You need to feel that quivering tummy because you're not sure of what you're doing. You need to take that first step away from the norm.

I'm holding my hand out to you...will you take it?

The weekend went well. We had some friends over Friday. We had music and of course drinks. We talked about everything and we laughed when the male counterpart of our guests ended up totally sloshed!

It must have been a night for the males to get wasted, because my spousal unit was pretty sloshed too. My friend and I sat back and alternately laughed at our husbands and tried to make sure they didn't hurt themselves. The liquor made them think they were super heros...lol

So, the smoking....I did smoke 2 on Friday..and Saturday I had a couple more. We went dancing Saturday evening and I only took one with me..and that's all I smoked. Yes, I would normally have bummed one, in a heart beat, but I didn't this time.

Sunday I stayed busy with cleaning and washing...I ate a ton of carrots and drank a load of water. It felt like I needed to keep my hands busy or I'd want a cigarette.

In the end, I didn't have one at all Sunday, I didn't have my cig after dropping the kids at school today.

I keep thinking it's going to get easier...God I hope that 'easy' thing gets here soon.

OH! Only one cigarette last night. It had an aweful taste at first, but it didn't last...or I enjoyed it too much to give a damn about the taste. Who knows.

My husband is the holder of the pack. I'm only allowed one per night, unless I try to bite someone's head off, in which case I've been intructed to smoke a cigarett whether I want one or not.

I don't know what I really expect here. Part of me wants to quit completely and part of me says I need it. When I'm upset or stressed, I crave that cigarette. It's not so much the flavor as it is the habit. It's become my safety blanket. Get upset, smoke a cig and calm down. Too much shit going on?...smoke a cig and relax for a minute.

I'm trying this cold turkey for now...but I may need medical intervention. Soon.

You know... I smoke since I was 17 years old. If I do it in the morning, I can not stop an the whole day. Wich is what I do when I´m bored. But the most of the times, I´m bussy. Then I only smoke at night. Not a vicious, but still bad for my health.

Hope you success in this.

Like you Harpia, if I smoke in the morning....I don't hold much hope for the rest of the day. So far, I've been doing well with no smoking in the morning and only one at night.

Of course....the weekend is here. We'll be drinking, which leads to smoking....now THAT is the time I need all the luck.

Good luck with it Selene. It's hard, but once you kick the habit you'll feel so proud of yourself. I quit a couple years back using nicotine patches - I don't have enough willpower to go cold turkey - and it was both the hardest and best things I've ever done.

Last night, I'm playing my usual round of Poker. My little one comes in after her shower and hands me the brush. This is a routine we've had since she could walk. Yes, she can brush her own hair, but I'd like to do it for as long as she'll let me.

Anyway, off topic. So I turn away from the computer, she's standing in front of me and we're both facing the big picture windows.

We see a tall, skinny person run up to our front porch and it looks like he's holding a cell phone in his hand because I can see the bluish tinted light move with his arms as he's running. I immediately think it's my son up to his tricks, so I didn't get startled, but Sara, on the other hand, get's scared enough to let out a little scream. The windows are open, the front door is open, it's just the screens and a storm door between us and him/her/whoever.

As soon as she screams, this tall lanky person, makes an about face, and hauls ass, away from us, going in the same direction from where he came.

I really still thought it was my son, but something made me go check his room. We both walk over, open his door and he's sitting on his bed talking on the phone. Ok...strange!

I check my daughter's room and she's there too. Ok, NOW I'm a little worried. I call my husband who is in the pool room. He didn't see anything, but from the direction the runner came, he wouldn't have. Plus, he's watching his WWII movie..nothing distracts him.

I explain the situation, he checks outside, tells me to call the cops and gets his keys. He's going to check the neighboorhood.

The unit arrives, after having canvassed the neighborhood himself. He's seen nothing, but will have someone keep an extra patrol on the place.

My youngest tells me she thinks it was some kids playing the 'Ding Dong Diggity' game. Which is apparantly the equivilant of knocking and/or ringing the doorbell and then running away without getting caught.

Could have been...dunno..will probably never know. It spooked me a little. If this person had been intent on actually getting into my house, he would have had no problem. That's pretty scarey.

I just realized I haven't had a ciggie in two days. I'm not SAYING I'm quitting, I'm just not trying to go out and and pay $5.00 a pack right now.

I'm going out on a limb and guess that this is why I've been in a sour mood for the last couple of days. Moreso today, than yesterday, I feel edgy and almost bitter towards everything and everyone.

I'm not sure about this no smoking thing.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

The Blonde

20:27 Apr 09 2008
Times Read: 755

A blonde lady motorist was about two hours from San Diego when she was flagged down by a man whose truck had broken down. The man walked up to the car and asked, "Are you going to San Diego?"

"Sure," answered the blonde, "do you need a lift?"

"Not for me. I'll be spending the next three hours fixing my truck. My problem is I've got two chimpanzees in the back which have to be taken to the San Diego Zoo. They're a bit stressed already so I don't want to keep them on the road all day. Could you possibly take them to the zoo for me?

I'll give you $100 for your trouble."

"I'd be happy to," said the blonde. So the two chimpanzees were ushered into the back seat of the blonde's car and carefully strapped into their seat belts. Off they went.

Five hours later, the truck driver was driving through the heart of San Diego when suddenly he was horrified! There was the blonde walking down the street and holding hands with the two chimps, much to the amusement of a big crowd. With a screech of brakes he pulled off the road and ran over to the blonde. What the hell are you doing here?" he demanded, "I gave you $100 to take these chimpanzees to the zoo."

"Yes, I know you did," said the blonde," but we had money left over---so now we're going to Sea World."

20) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

PS. - Why doesn't 'Buick' rhyme with 'quick'

You lovers of the English language might enjoy this:

There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is 'UP'

It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the mor ning, why do we wake UP ? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP ? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write-UP a report ?

We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car . At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special.

And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night.

We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP ! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP , look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP , you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP.

When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP

When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP

One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP , for now my time is UP, so........... it is time to shut UP !

Oh . . . one more thing: WHAT'S IT MEAN WHEN A PERSON SAYS, "UP YOURS?"

AND???

What is the first thing you do in the morning & the last thing you do at night? U-P

Oh well, I won't keep this up .....

I didn't know him well. We met in a chat room. He was intelligent, funny and very sweet. Off and on, I'd say we'd been talking in the rooms for maybe a couple of years.

I finally got a hold of her coach and he informs me that their train was late in Longview. Which means they will likely miss their train in Chicago.

They've made arrangements to get off the train in Chicago and either rent vans or take busses to Kalamazoo.

Our call is lost at this point.

I'm such a blubberer (is that even a word?). My baby left for Michigan today. She'll be on a train for two days, arrives in Michigan late Friday evening and they get settled in a room. They lift Saturday all day and then they watch the rest of their team lift on Sunday. Monday they get back on the train for two days and arrive back in Houston on Tuesday evening.

I cried when I left her...hell, I'm still crying. My heart seems to break a little everytime I leave her. My husband says I'll go nuts when she leaves for college next year, but he's wrong. I'll miss her, but this is different. She's going to another state for crying out loud. She'll be gone for 5 days and I feel like I'm letting her down by not being there with her.

She hadn't been gone more than 5 minutes and she called to say she loved me and to tell me to quit crying. Of course that made me cry more.

I'm gonna miss her, even if I am extremely happy for her.

I won’t give the kids their own cell phones, They have to save up for their own first vehicle. I sing out loud in the car when their friends are with us. They have to learn to do their own laundry, they have chores that they don’t get paid for, I’m sure there’s a ton more that I do to dis-qualify me from worlds best mom, hell the list would go on and on, but at the end of the day. I hear a “Goodnight. I love you Mom” and I know we’ve made it through another day. I pray to have another day, crazy and hectic or peaceful...it’s all about another day with them, and in the end it’s all worth it.
